NHL players will be participating at the 2030 Winter Olympics in France. Here are my predictions for the next team Canada hockey roster at the Olympics. This includes my projected forward lines, defense pairs, goalies, powerplay and penalty kill units. NOTE: We will be updating this as the tournament draws closer as players rise and fall based on performance.
Gunner’s Projected Roster For Team Canada At The Next Olympics
Forward Lines
| Line 1: | Gavin Mckenna | Connor McDavid (A) | Nathan MacKinnon (A) |
You can lock in Connor McDavid as the number one center for this team. It will be either him or Macklin Celebrini, so line 1 and 2 are interchangeable.
Nathan MacKinnon will be a bit older, so I think they move him to the wing for this tournament. They can always put him back to center if they need the depth.
Gavin Mckenna has a chance to make this team but this requires him living up to the hype. This will be several years into his NHL career, so the growing pains should be done. I also love the potential for some sort of ‘Mc’ related nickname for this line.
| Line 2: | Beckett Sennecke | Macklin Celebrini | Connor Bedard |
Macklin Celebrini is on this team. I think Canada will use him down the middle, instead of on the wing like they did in 2026. He is too goo not to use him in his natural position.
Connor Bedard’s name was debated for the 2026 team but he was left off. That won’t happen in 2030. Bedard is a center but on a team as stacked as this, moving him to the wing makes sense.
Beckett Sennecke has really impressed me and I only see him going up from here. I think he has a really good chance to be on the team.
| Line 3: | Brandon Hagel | Nick Suzuki | Mitch Marner |
For the third line, I am going with a line that can bring offense but also can be relied upon defensively. Nick Suzuki, Mitch Marner, and Brandon Hagel all fit that bill. This is a line that can play against the top line of the opponent and also score some goals.
| Line 4: | Wyatt Johnston | Sidney Crosby (C) | Dylan Guenther |
Sidney Crosby comes with a very big asterisk. He is going to be old at this point and we don’t know if he is still playing at this point. He still looks good though and if he is playing at a decent level, they will bring him in, even for a limited 4th line role.
Dylan Guenther is an intriguing name to watch out for. I could see him making this team. Same goes for Wyatt Johnston.
| On The Bubble: | Adam Fantilli |
| Robert Thomas | |
| Brayden Point |
Defense Pairs
| Pair 1: | Thomas Harley | Cale Makar |
It is a no-brainer that Cale Makar will be on the top pair at this tournament. He will be just over 30 years old and should still be one of the best players on the planet.
Thomas Harley is a lock for this team. Putting him with Makar would make for an elite duo.
| Pair 2: | Matthew Schaefer | Noah Dobson |
like Makar, Matthew Schaefer is another no-brainer. He should have been on the 2026 team and will definitely be on this one.
I will pair him with Noah Dobson, who I think has a really good chance to be on the team. I think his two-way game is good enough to compliment Schaefer.
| Pair 3: | Owen Power | Evan Bouchard |
I think you take Evan Bouchard and have him run the second power player unit.
I would pair him with someone like Owen Power who has taken some time to develop but could be really good at this point.
| On The Bubble: | Sam Dickinson |
| Josh Morrissey |
Goalies
| Starter: | Sebastian Cossa |
| Backup: | Logan Thompson |
| Third String: | Jordan Binnington |
There is no doubt that goaltending will be the weakness of Team Canada at this tournament. This is going to depend on who is playing their best this time and I am not super confident in any of them. As a result, I am not going to spend too much time on this right now.
Goalies are weird and it could be someone from off the board who comes in and makes a big impact.
