Here are my predictions for what will happen during NHL Free agency in 2027. We are going to focus on some of the biggest stories and will update this as it draws closer (and we will change any of these if extensions get signed in advance).
Gunner’s NHL Free Agency Predictions
Quinn Hughes Will Sign With The New Jersey Devils
I am sure that Quinn Hughes loves it in Minnesota but I think playing with his brothers will be too hard to pass up on.
My guess is that Quinn signs a big deal to join Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes on the Devils. He probably takes a bit less money to in order to make the deal happen.
| Prediction: | New Jersey Devils | 7 years, $77 million ($11 million AAV) |
Sidney Crosby Will Re-Sign With The Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sidney Crosby will be a free agent but I don’t see him going anywhere. I think his next deal brings him to 2030, which would be his last Olympics.
My guess is he signs a 3-year deal for you guessed it, $8.7 million. Why change things now?
| Prediction: | Pittsburgh Penguins | 3 years, $26.1 million ($8.7 million AAV) |
Cale Makar Will Re-Sign With The Avalanche For A Record
Cale Makar will be a UFA in 2027. I don’t see him leaving the Colorado Avalanche. I think he re-signs with them but at a massive contract.
Makar already has a Stanley Cup so that pressure if off. He will have a chance to compete for another one as long as Nathan MacKinnon and him are on the same team.
My guess is he signs a massive deal to stay with the Avs and he is worth every penny.
| Prediction: | Colorado Avalanche | 7 years, $98 million ($14 million AAV) |
